Piece of Advice

"Speak softly and carry a big stick, and you will go far." While it's unlikely that Theodore Roosevelt really wanted people to carry around big sticks, his advice is good. He meant that people should make sure that they were equipped to defend themselves properly, but not to be aggressive towards others.

Lead Me

"He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, " Feed My sheep. "

John 21:17

Peter was grieved. I wondered did anyone of us ever asked why? IMO, I think it is because he felt the hurt and the pain that Lord J C is doubting Him. Of course, I’m also wondering, did he remember, how he was told that he would denied Jesus 3 thrice before the cock crows, and he so hastily and readily declared that he would not do.

Peter was quick, quick to act. No doubt the only person to have walked on water, either than our Lord, should he had not faltered, he would have walked with the Lord on the water. His faith was shaken, he lost sight of the Lord, and he sunk. How many a times, we would lose sight of our goal, target and our life’s model.

I’ve lost sight again.

I’m not saying that I am great like Peter. In fact, I am not great enough to tie the sandals of those who tie the sandals of our Lord. But yet with the life experiences and encounters of the great saints, once really understand what it means that we are not walking alone in this Journey of faith.

I see the cloud of witnesses and saints cheering us on.

Lead me.

Excerpts from "The Elder Gods", David and Leigh Eddings

The dimwits seemed to feel that if they talked about something long enough, the problem would go away.

-----

"There's something I've been meaning to ask you, Chief Old-Bear," Red-Beard said a bit hesitantly, after Planter had left the lodge.

"I will answer you as best I can, Chief Red-Beard."

"Is it really necessary for a chief to speak so formally?"

"It's part of the pose that goes with the position, Chief Red-Beard," Old-Bear responded in a somewhat more relaxed manner. "Formal speech makes a chief sound as if he knows what he's doing. When you speak formally, the men of your tribe will usually do what you tell them to do. Formal speech will make you sound wiser."

"But it's so tedious to talk like that," Red-Beard complained.

"Tell me about it," Old-Bear replied sardonically. It's tiresome and pompous, and about half the time you'll forget what you're trying to tell them before you finish talking. The important thing's that it makes you sound wise -- even when you're telling then to do something that's foolish." The old chief paused. "If I were you, Red-Beard, I'd sort of keep that to myself. It's one of the secrets of the trade. If you pay close attention to the outlander chieftains, you'll notice that they do things in more or less the same way. If you sound like you know what you're doing, the men of your tribe will believe that you do, even when you don't."

"It's all just a deception, then?" Red-Beard demanded.

"I thought I just said that," Old-Bear replied.

-----

"What if I made mistakes?"

"Everybody makes mistakes, Chief Red-Beard," the old shaman told him. "That's one of the ways we learn things-- not the best way, perphaps, but it's there if you need it."

The Supreme Climb

A person’s character determines how he interprets God’s will (see Psalm 18:25-26 ). Abraham interpreted God’s command to mean that he had to kill his son, and he could only leave this traditional belief behind through the pain of a tremendous ordeal. God could purify his faith in no other way. If we obey what God says according to our sincere belief, God will break us from those traditional beliefs that misrepresent Him. There are many such beliefs which must be removed-for example, that God removes a child because his mother loves him too much. That is the devil’s lie and a travesty on the true nature of God! If the devil can hinder us from taking the supreme climb and getting rid of our wrong traditional beliefs about God, he will do so. But if we will stay true to God, God will take us through an ordeal that will serve to bring us into a better knowledge of Himself.

The great lesson to be learned from Abraham’s faith in God is that he was prepared to do anything for God. He was there to obey God, no matter what contrary belief of his might be violated by his obedience. Abraham was not devoted to his own convictions or else he would have slain Isaac and said that the voice of the angel was actually the voice of the devil. That is the attitude of a fanatic. If you will remain true to God, God will lead you directly through every barrier and right into the inner chamber of the knowledge of Himself. But you must always be willing to come to the point of giving up your own convictions and traditional beliefs. Don’t ask God to test you. Never declare as Peter did that you are willing to do anything, even "to go . . . both to prison and to death" ( Luke 22:33 ). Abraham did not make any such statement— he simply remained true to God, and God purified his faith.

Non Nobis Domine Non Nobis Sed Nomini Tuo Da Gloriam

Once in a while, I'll point my finger to the sky, look up and say

"Hey! Big guy up there, will be kind enough to spare me a moment and grant me some help and attention here...."

Once upon a time i decided i was not christian...

but the Almighty did not quite like the idea (i guessed), and played (and still does) with my life with a sense of humour that always eluded me.

Being pretty much disadvantaged as a mere mortal, i decided that i got his point and acknowledge that he is God.
